Treat yourself and friends and/or family to a private luxury 3 day tour of provincial Victoria’s King Valley, which is becoming famous for its world class wines, gourmet food, and spectacular natural scenery. This lush, green valley practically transports you to picturesque Northern Italy without the long haul flight! The heart and soul of this region is essentially its people, characters, identity and connection to a vibrant Italian community.

During the “Si Mangia Bene” tour guests will taste the area’s sensational and increasingly popular Prosecco wines, which are crisp and fresh, yet very elegant. The King Valley region is most known for this wine variety and has now earned the title of being Australia’s ‘Prosecco Road’. However we also treat you to a journey of rich velvety reds and the rustic Italian “cucina”, which is upheld in the places we have chosen for you to dine at. Our dining locations include the Brown Brothers winery, Beechworth’s Provenance and Simone’s of Bright.

Our Itinerary

Day 1 – Seymour, Beechworth (Provenance Dinner)

Mid Morning – Mid-morning departure aboard our well appointed 8 seater vehicle which includes pick up and return from Melbourne suburbs, by arrangement.

Early Afternoon – Lunch is at Veneto Blu in Seymour which is a lovely cafe with some charming period features and a gorgeous little courtyard out the back. There is a cafe style Italian menu offering. The food and coffee are both very good (cost of lunch not included in price of tour).

Mid Afternoon – Arrive at Erindale Guest House, where there will be ample time to unwind and enjoy the stunning surrounds of this charming and historical Guest House. It is situated a 5 minute stroll from the center of Beechworth and offers luxury accommodation, seclusion and gorgeous grounds.*

7:30 – Dinner at Provenance Restaurant – Tonight guests enjoy a lovely dinner at Beechworth’s award-winning Provenance Restaurant

Day 2 – Milawa, an afternoon on The Prosecco Road and Simone’s of Bright Dinner!

Late Morning – Tasting and picnic lunch at Brown Brothers Cellar Door. The spectacular grounds of the Brown Brothers winery and cellar door provide the setting to explore a wide range of new wine varieties and styles. The range at Brown Brothers includes limited releases of new varietals, experimental batches and optimum aged wines. Here they have a prosecco range that is genuinely true to style, as well as a variety of Italian wines such as, Dolcetto, Moscato, Vermentino, Pinot Grigio, Montepulciano, Zibibbo and Dolcetto. After the tasting guests will enjoy a prosecco, cheese and charcuterie plate lunch on a picnic rug in the truly splendid Brown Brothers gardens.
Mid Afternoon – Chrismont vineyard guided tour and tasting / Dal Zotto Tasting. Chrismont has been producing exceptional wines since 1996. Its La Zona label is a complement to the Chrismont label, celebrating their rich history of Italian heritage. The range of Italian varietals includes Prosecco NV, Arneis, Pinot Grigio, Moscato, Barbera, Marzemino and Fragolino. We will spend some time in the vineyard with the winemaker and take a guided tour of the winery for an insight into Chrismont’s prosecco production process. We later taste their wines accompanied by some very tasty Italian style aperitivi! Otto Dal Zotto’s family’s history with vines in the Veneto region of Italy guaranteed that one day he would look to plant the varieties from the old country here. Prosecco, Arneis, Pinot Grigio, Barbera and Sangiovese have now found a new home at Dal Zotto, with their acclaimed Prosecco being the first Australian-made version in the marketplace. The Dal Zotto family pioneered the production of prosecco in Australia and since Otto Dal Zotto planted his first cuttings in 2000, the enjoyment of prosecco in Australia has grown exponentially.

6:30 – Depart for a degustation dinner at Simone’s of Bright, which has been run by George and Patrizia Simone for the past 22 years. In this time it has moved from its first location on the outskirts of Bright, to a beautiful Victorian cottage in the heart of the township. In 2009 Patrizia was deemed to be a “Legend of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival” in recognition of her chef skills and passionate promotion of seasonality and regionality, through her work with local food and wine producers.

Day 3 – Wine Tastings, Milawa Cheese Factory and Farewell Day.

10:30 – Enjoy a Sam Miranda tasting at their very stylish subterranean cellar. It streams with light from the forty foot light tower that stands above you. Sam Miranda is the third generation of a prominent winemaking family who moved from Italy to Australia in the 1930’s. He has grown up amongst winemakers in the region of Griffith in NSW, and moved to the King Valley with his family in 1996. Apart from some lovely French, Spanish and Russian wines, they also make dolcetto, prosecco, arneis and pinot grigio from the Italian varietals.
11:30 – lunch at Milawa Cheese Factory. This is a wonderful way to end our luxury tour of the King Valley gourmet wine and food region. Here you can find award winning cheese, Wood Park wines cellar door and The Muse art gallery. The Milawa Cheese Company is a highly regarded speciality cheese factory. All cheeses are hand- made at the historic Milawa Butter Factory using traditional methods, without preservatives and using non-animal rennet. The restaurant was awarded One Hat for 2005. According to the Age Good Food Guide “…few regional restaurants offer such a creative celebration of local produce as this one”. Choose to sit inside or dine on the expansive veranda (cost of lunch not included in price of tour).

On the site of the Milawa Cheese Factory is the cellar door of Wood Park Wines and the fine art and exhibitions gallery-‘ The Muse’. The Muse Gallery showcases a range of quality paintings, prints, ceramics, sculpture and jewellery from emerging and established local and interstate artists.

1:30 – Return to Melbourne

Accommodation

Accommodation during the tour will be at the Erindale Guest House. The rooms are spacious and have queen-sized beds. All rooms also have an open fireplace to make your stay here all the more intimate and enticing!*
